Mr Lawrence said since 2007, when Evans was second in the Tour de France, 48 new bicycle stores had opened in Melbourne.
Competitive club cycling has also benefited according to Cycling Victoria general manager Kipp Kaufmann who says club memberships have soared by 300 per cent since 2007!

This - in short time will become the most significant sporting acheivement in our nation's history. In the hustle and bustle of information and internet overload sometimes we forget people's 15 minutes of fame rather quickly. But with Cadel, we will forever remember his feat for decades and decades to come.

Cadel, your come from behind gutzy victory on the 20th stage time trial was one of our country's finest and proudest sporting moments that joins a very select bunch of Australian international hall of fame legends led in my opinion by John Bertrand's Americas Cup win and Kathy Freeman's 400m Sydney Olympic gold medal efforts!
A delighted and proud - Cycling Mike
